PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION |
By moving from two closely spaced split-phase signalized intersections to a simple single-lane roundabout, the average estimated wait time is reduced by about 15 seconds per trip — totaling more than 70 hours of reduced idling per day and an annual cost savings in fuel etc. of more than $200,000 per year. Saving time and money, as well as lessening idling emissions, are great benefits. The new roundabout intersection has the additional benefit of providing a new enhanced entrance to Brighton High School which is being reconstructed after 40 years of service.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES |
Objective 1. Examples of roundabouts near high schools.
Objective 2. How to combine two intersections into one single roundabout.
Objective 3. How to include pedestrians and bicycles at a roundabout with enhanced safety.
Objective 4. Educating the public including residents and City Council about roundabouts.
ROUNDABOUT DISCUSSION |
This topic will show roundabout designers some effective ways to present a roundabout project to the public on YouTube.
