Biography
Kaveh is a recognized national expert in freight data and modeling with over 14 years of experience working in travel demand modeling and complex data analysis. He has led freight data and freight planning/modeling practice in consulting firms. He has published books and numerous peer reviewed papers in prestigious journals and academic conferences. Kaveh is an active member of the TRB’s Freight Transportation Data (AED70) and Freight Transportation Planning and Logistics (AT015) committees. Kaveh has led national, statewide, and regional freight modeling projects with government agencies such as Federal (FHWA, TRB), State DOTs (Florida, New York, Michigan, Oregon, and Utah), and regional agencies (SCAG, CMAP, and SEMCOG). In 2019, he published an FHWA Report which evaluates the handful of behavioral supply chain freight models in the U.S.
Co-presenter Biography
Fatemeh Ranaiefar specializes in freight travel demand forecasting, big data and freight analytics. She got her PhD. in Transportation Science from University of California – Irvine with focus on freight and logistic models. She joined Fehr & Peers in 2013 and currently lead their freight discipline group. Over the last decade she served as project manager, task lead or advisor on several local, regional and statewide freight plans and supported agencies in developing or updating their freight forecasting model. She provides training on travel demand modeling for agencies, empowering staff to develop and evaluate freight modeling scenario alternatives, assess projects based on comprehensive freight performance measures, understand the application of new freight big data sources, and create visual infographics that aid in the decision-making process. She is a adjunct faculty at University of Southern California and teaches transportation network modeling to master students. Dr. Ranaiefar served as a member of Urban Freight (AT025) and Freight Planning and Logistic (AT015) Committee at TRB.
