Presentation Description
Panel 3, Multimodal Freight Automation, will discuss interactions and engagement between states and the private sector in the delivery of infrastructure that will continue the growth of AV freight. Panelists will focus on partnerships between State DOTs and the private sector to plan the multimodal transportation system of the future, which will likely need to consider the intersection of AV trucks with other automated facilities and modes in the supply chain.
Speaker Biography
William (Billy) Hwang is a research scientist at the Texas Transportation Institute. He has nearly 20 years of experience providing strategic and business planning, policy, and management support for local and state government agencies. Prior to joining TTI in 2020, Mr. Hwang was a consultant, managing funding strategy and business operations projects. From 2004 to 2016, he held staff and executive-level positions in local and state government agencies. He was Chief of Staff for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation. Before that, Mr. Hwang served as the Deputy Director for the Baltimore City Department of Transportation and spent a number of years at the Maryland Department of Transportation, rising to the position Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy and Freight. He also brings relevant skills as a licensed attorney, with experience in legislative and regulatory drafting, contracts and agreements, and negotiations.
