"ADS for Rural America" is a U.S. Demonstration Grant project where we run an ADS transit vehicle on rural roadways in Iowa. The 47 mile route makes it's way through 4 small communities in Iowa and covers a wide variety of roadway types and intersections. This presentation provides an overview, progress and current status of this project. We also share lessons learned.
Speaker Biography
Mr. Ahmad is Deputy Director of the University of Iowa Driving Safety Research Institute. He has a Masters degree in Computer Science and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Iowa. For the past 25 years, he has worked on research studies related to studying vehicle safety and human performance. More recently, Mr. Ahmad has led a series of on-road demonstration projects utilizing automated vehicles and HD maps. He is currently serving as the project manager for the USDOT ADS Demonstration Grant project titled “ADS for Rural America.”
