Collaboratively Integrating ADS into our Transportation Systems: Concept of Operations for Transportation Agencies
Date and Time: Tuesday, July 11, 2023: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Presentation Description
As the transportation industry progresses to an environment where the use of automated driving systems (ADS) becomes more prevalent, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) initiated a process in 2019 to better understand how to effectively integrate ADS into transportation systems and operations supporting common ADS use cases and achieving desired societal outcomes. This project defined a business case for transportation agencies’ involvement in ADS integration, identified 55 needs for ADS integration, and translated these needs into 34 capabilities that describe what the collective transportation industry needs to accomplish for ADS integration to be successful.
This poster presentation will engage attendees in discussing the identified capabilities and the collaborative steps that the transportation industry can take to advance them. The poster will also highlight direction for further advancement of ADS integration seeking input from attendees on needed enhancements or new content in the planned Version 2 with a focus on understanding the role of roadway digital infrastructure for ADS integration.
