Presentation Description

The Treasure Island Autonomous Vehicle Shuttle pilot “the Loop” is a 9-month demonstration of a shared service on public roads on Treasure Island in San Francisco. Funded by ATCMTD and MTC IDEA SAV grants, the Treasure Island Mobility Management Agency (TIMMA), in partnership with Beep, Inc. will deploy two fully electric Navya vehicles for a fixed route circulator to connect community destinations and residential areas. The free service will have an attendant on board at all times and run 9am to 6pm daily.

In support of the pilot, TIMMA will lead a Public Engagement effort to understand perceptions and travel benefits of the community and general public, and a Community Partnerships Program to support local workforce, educational institutions, and business development efforts. These efforts will span the entire demonstration period. Data collection and public engagement will support evaluation of the study goals: to understand safety features and capabilities of a shared public AV shuttle service, support mobility needs, identify the organizational and infrastructure requirements for operating an AV shuttle, and share research findings. TIMMA expects to operate the Treasure Island service with passengers starting in late Summer 2023 through Spring 2024. The poster will include images to reflect the service preparation and pilot evaluation.

Speaker Biography

Aliza Paz is a Principal Planner at the San Francisco County Transportation Authority. They have 13 years of experience in new mobility, transportation demand management, and long-range planning as a consultant and in the public sector. Before joining the SFCTA, they worked with cities and counties as well as for major tech campuses across the world to develop plans that shift trips from driving to more sustainable options, including shuttle projects and TDM plans. Aliza is now leading the Treasure Island Autonomous Vehicle Shuttle pilot, which is planned to launch this year after recently managing the development of the San Francisco Transportation Plan 2050, the county’s long range transportation plan.
