Discussion of challenges associated with moving goods using ADS vehicles from point of origin to final customer. Focus will be on technology, market, financial, infrastructure and partnership challenges associated with scaling ADS goods delivery platforms and addressing supply chain challenges.
Speaker Biography
Bob recently joined FMCSA as Director, Office of Safety Innovation. His Office is responsible for conducting technology and human factors research related to the safe operation and maintenance of commercial motor vehicles, as well as completing a variety of data analyses related to measuring the safety of commercial motor vehicle drivers, equipment and carriers. Prior to joining FMCSA Bob served as the Chief for the Electronic Systems Safety Division at NHTSA, and Chief of the Intelligent Technologies Division. His work at NHTSA focused on conducting safety research in areas related to cybersecurity, automated driving systems (ADS), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and connected vehicle communications. Bob started his career for General Motors as a design engineer with responsibility for developing electronic emission controls. He moved to the consulting firm of Booz Allen Hamilton where he worked for private and public-sector clients in areas related to automotive propulsion systems, alternative fuels, and advanced safety technologies. Bob is a graduate of General Motors Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has an MBA from Duke University.
