Colorado's Road to Resiliency

Bio: Johnny Olson achieved a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Evansville (Indiana). He has worked in the transportation industry since 1991, with twenty plus years in various positions and locations throughout the CO Department of Transportation (CDOT) and two years in the private sector as VP of Bohannan Huston’s regional office in Denver.
He currently holds the position of Director of Transportation and Operations for Colorado for Horrocks Engineering where he works with others to help move the transportation industry in to the 21st Century.
Johnny has a comprehensive understanding of the industry in engineering, planning, management, marketing and financial areas while having a diverse professional background in project development, construction and maintenance
In September 2013 when historic floods hit Northern Colorado hard, Johnny was asked to step into the Incident Commander position for CDOT. After unprecedented rainfall washed away roads and bridges in five mountain canyons and across several Northern communities leaving hundreds of people without access.
His stated intent is to build a diverse and resilient transportation network for the Colorado residents; by build trusting relationships with key stakeholders and finding essential ways to improve Colorado’s economy for today and the future.

Lizzie currently serves as the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Resiliency Program Manager. Lizzie earned her masters degree in city and regional planning from the University of California in Berkeley. She has worked for over 25 years as a transportation planner in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Metro Denver, focusing on multimodal planning, funding and policy. Lizzie and her husband Uriel live in Denver and have two sons Miles (14) and Cody (11).
