The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will share results and lessons learned to-date from its Transit Bus Automation Research Program and introduce the Strategic Transit Automation Research (STAR) Plan 2.0.
Speaker Biography
Steve Mortensen is a Senior Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer with the Federal Transit Administration Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation. Mr. Mortensen is the co-manager of FTA’s Transit Bus Automation Research program and the manager of several transit bus automation research projects and demonstrations. Mr. Mortensen also manages a portfolio of research projects from FTA's Integrated Mobility Innovation, Accelerating Innovative Mobility, and Enhancing Mobility Innovation programs.
Prior to FTA, Steve worked at Noblis providing ITS program technical and management support to the ITS Joint Program Office and FTA in the areas of transit fleet management, human services transportation coordination, electronic payment, traveler information, and rail transit ITS. Prior to Noblis, Steve worked at PB Farradyne where he conducted transit ITS research and developed ITS deployment and implementation plans for several metropolitan regions.
Mr. Mortensen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Community and Regional Planning degree from Iowa State University.
