Session Description and Agenda
Description
With an increase in AV testing and deployment, city governments, companies, citizens, etc. all must navigate increasingly complex systems and respond to a widening range of circumstances.
This session uses a war-game-based approach to illuminate challenges and opportunities inherent in AV deployment. Using tools such as role play, negotiation, dice, cards, and secret messages, we will explore the roles of different stakeholders, and work through salient issues that occur when AVs deploy in urban environments. These include city vs. state regulatory authority, information sharing, secondary effects of the deployment, surprise events, and resource limitations.
Agenda
The session will start with a brief introduction to war gaming, and to the key dependencies and stakeholders involved in deploying AVs in an urban environment.
And then, at 1:45pm, the game begins...
Session Objectives
• Identify the different roles each stakeholder group has at the city level, and how that interplays with state and federal roles, etc.
• Facilitate a guided, but open and interactive activity where attendees can explore how different stakeholder groups, with different motivations and different resources, may view and may be involved in responding to different events that can occur.
• Allow attendees to grapple with real issues related to AV deployment and explore how different strategies work (or don't work).
