Speaker Biography
Dr. Bin Ran is the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and Director of ITS Program at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He served as the Director of the Traffic Operations and Safety Lab (TOPS) at UW-Madison. Dr. Ran is an expert in ITS and Connected Autonomous Mobility (CCM). He has more than 170 patents or patents pending in the US, China, Japan, Europe, and other countries. In addition, Dr. Ran’s international teams have been developing system designs and pilot systems of CCM in US, Europe, and China. Dr. Ran serves as the Chair for Committee on Connected Autonomous Mobility, International Road Federation (IRF), which serves as the forum of global collaboration for more than 180 countries. He leads a Task Force of Transportation Research Board (TRB) to develop system architecture and development roadmaps for vehicle-highway automation in the US. He serves as the Chairman of the Faculty Committee, the major technical committee for World Transport Convention (WTC), which has more than 25,000 participants from over 160 countries annually. He also serves as the Secretary of Vehicle-Road Coordination Innovation Consortium (VRCIC). Dr. Ran is the author of two leading textbooks on transportation planning and operations, and six books on intelligent highways; the author of over 830 scientific articles. He is the recipient of Wilbur S. Smith Distinguished Transportation Educator Award from ITE in 2018.
