In this presentation, Mike will discuss some of the opportunities and challenges with self-driving vehicles, including some unique considerations around the use of artificial intelligence. Mike will also discuss the current activities on international harmonisation under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
Speaker Biography
Mike Braisher holds a Master’s degree in Engineering Science and a DPhil in vehicle particle emissions. After completing his academic studies, Mike joined Jaguar Land Rover, initially working in the vehicle emissions laboratory for two years. This role served as a foundation for his subsequent focus on vehicle regulations for a further six years, including representing the company in various industry working groups and international expert groups.
In 2019, Mike moved to the United Kingdom's Department for Transport. In this role, he worked as part of the team that delivered the Automated Vehicles Act (2024), managed a portfolio of research projects on automated vehicle safety assurance, and now focuses on the development of regulatory standards for automated vehicles. Mike also represents the United Kingdom as a co-chair for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe informal working group developing regulations for automated driving systems.
