The University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies launched its CAV Careers Pathway Camp in 2021. The Camp is a one-week day camp for high school students interested in vehicles and the latest technology. Students learn about CAV technology and explore career opportunities in a cutting-edge industry that will help shape the future of transportation. This presentation will share how the camp is organized, provide an overview of the activities experienced by campers, and highlight the partnerships that support the camp.
Speaker Biography
Gina Baas is the deputy director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Transportation Studies (CTS). In this position, she provides overall leadership for the Center in the areas of engagement and education through identifying new opportunities, directing programs, and establishing future directions. As a member of the CTS Leadership Team, Baas helps guide all aspects of the Center’s operations including policy development, strategic positioning, resource allocation, and staff development.
Baas has more than 20 years of experience in convening stakeholder groups with multiple perspectives and in developing materials and information for use in the public sector. the Center’s education and workforce development functions, providing strategic direction and leading project delivery for outreach, education, and training opportunities that support K-12 students, undergraduate and graduate students, and practitioners. Baas also directs the MnCAV Ecosystem, the University’s umbrella program for CAV research, engagement, and workforce development initiatives.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science with a minor in American history from the University of Iowa.
