Edward Straub is the Director of SAE International’s Office of Automation. His office provides a holistic view of emerging automated vehicle technologies, their challenges and impact on the socio-technical landscape. He has participated as a subject matter expert in multiple industry committees at SAE International, IEEE, ISO, UL, CSA, and ITU. He also collaborates with North American and European governmental organizations on topics related to automated vehicles and transportation safety.
Prior to joining SAE, Dr. Straub was involved with connected and automated vehicles as a researcher, program manager, technical program director, and chief safety officer. His earlier work was in consulting on business process re-engineering and information systems integration after his time as a commissioned combat engineer officer in the United States Marine Corps.
Dr. Straub holds a Doctor of Management degree from Case Western Reserve University where he conducted original research on human social systems. Other credentials include an MBA, Masters' Certificates in IS/IT management, Bachelor of Science, and other professional and technical certifications. His primary areas of academic interest are system design and human interaction with automated vehicles.
