Speaker Biography
Since January 2021, as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Urban Development at TU Dortmund University, Germany, I have been leading the DFG (German Research Foundation) project titled 'Quantitative and qualitative gendered time-use in travel-based multitasking' within Germany. This project aims to explore relevant theories concerning gender dimensions in travel-related multitasking through quantitative analysis.
In addition, I am serving as a research advisor, guiding undergraduate students in group projects within the Department of Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University, focusing on "Accessibility for all - the mobility needs of people with disabilities."
In the preceding years (2017-2020), I participated in the DFG project titled "Gender, Commuting and Activity Patterns," emphasizing gender-specific in-home and out-of-home activities, travel patterns, and time-space constraints. From 2011 to 2016, I served as a DAAD Research Associate on the BMBF Project "Climate and Energy in a Complex Transition Process towards Sustainable Hyderabad" in the Division of Resource Economics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I completed my Ph.D. in June 2015.
My research interests encompass various aspects of travel behavior, including travel time use in everyday mobility, aging, travel satisfaction, and well-being, as well as gender-specific mobility concerns, such as perceived safety, commuting behavior, and multitasking. I have incorporated these research interests into my teaching, including the Module "Transport and Inequalities" (since 2019) and a new Module "Transport and Infrastructure" (starting 2024) for M.Sc. Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University, where gender, commuting, and well-being are central discussion themes.
My academic engagements extend to disseminating gender-oriented research outcomes through scholarly dialogues, conference participation, and manuscript reviews for journals like Transportation Part A, Travel Behavior Society, and Transport Research Record. Since 2022, I have been an active member of the Standing Committee on Women and Gender in Transportation (AME20) based in Washington, D.C., USA.
