Speaker Biography
Sang-O Kim's research interest focuses on the demographic transition toward an aging society and its ripple effect on the transportation landscape. His dissertation specifically focuses on family caregivers, whose everyday labor of love and transportation service plays a critical role in the well-being of older adults. He is also interested in how expanding the senior population would affect where people would live, work, and socialize in American suburbs. Ultimately, he wishes to become a research-oriented scholar investigating how planners and community leaders could better prepare themselves for the novel challenges of an aging society. Sang-O also has a strong passion for pedagogy and currently serving as an instructor for a freshman writing seminar for the department. Before joining CRP, he gained various work experiences ranging from public diplomacy in Austria, interior design in South Korea, and local government in California. He received his bachelor's degree(BA) in geography from King's College London (UK) and received a master's in urban planning (MUP) from the University of Southern California.
