Speaker Biography
Dr. Maria Calahorra-Jimenez is a Beavers Assistant Professor in heavy civil construction management at California State University, Fresno. Maria holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the Catholic University of Chile. She is also a Project Management Professional (PMP).
Dr. Calahorra-Jimenez worked for 14 years in international engineering firms before changing her path to academia. She served as technical office manager, project manager, and project engineer involved in the design and construction of over a hundred infrastructure projects—totaling nearly $2 billion—in Spain and Chile.
Maria is passionate about improving engineering and construction practices in infrastructure projects, and she thinks the best place to contribute to this vision is through research and higher education. Dr. Calahorra-Jimenez’s main research lines focus on alternative and digital project delivery, data analysis/decision-making, and sustainability/resilience in infrastructure projects. She is also working to broaden women’s participation in heavy civil engineering/construction and in engineering/construction education.
