"Empowering the Future: Gender Equity and AI in Transportation" is a meticulously designed workshop exploring the pivotal intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and gender equity within the transportation sector. This session is crafted to explore how AI technologies can be harnessed to promote inclusivity and ensure that transportation systems are accessible and equitable for all, with a special focus on addressing gender disparities.

The importance of this workshop for the TRB Conference on Women and Gender in Transportation lies in its direct response to the urgent need for the transportation sector to evolve in ways that prioritize equity and inclusivity. By bringing together experts from government, non-profit, and industry sectors, the workshop intends to foster a multifaceted discussion on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in achieving these goals. The workshop will delve into critical topics such as enhancing data quality, ensuring representation in AI development, fostering a collaborative design process, maintaining transparency in AI applications, and understanding regulatory constraints—all through the lens of gender equity.

At the heart of this workshop is the belief that AI holds transformative potential for the transportation industry, particularly in creating more gender-inclusive environments. However, realizing this potential requires a concerted effort to address existing gender gaps in AI and transportation sectors, making this workshop an essential platform for dialogue, learning, and action at the conference. We invited distinguished panelists—Sara Stickler of WTS, Patricia Hu of USDOT, and Renee Autumn Ray of Hayden AI— who will share their unique perspectives and experiences, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of how to navigate and leverage AI for a more equitable transportation future.
