Speaker Biography
Danena Gaines, Ph.D. is a Principal of Cambridge Systematics, Inc. with over 17 years of experience in transportation safety planning, local road safety plan development, Strategic Highway Safety Plan development and implementation, Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) implementation, and traffic safety research. She manages Federal, State, and local transportation safety planning projects and has strong infrastructure and behavioral safety expertise. Dr. Gaines has managed or supported research projects with the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program (BTSCRP), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). She has experience working collaboratively with research panels and turning research into practitioner-focused actions. Dr. Gaines has led or supported Strategic Highway Safety Plan updates in Arkansas, North Dakota, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina and worked with many states to incorporate the Safe System Approach into their SHSP. Danena has bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Civil Engineering, a masters in Civil Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
