Speaker Biography
Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D., Founder/CEO, Introducing Youth to American Infrastructure, Inc. ("iyai+"). Her career in the public transportation sector spans 40 years in the United States, including four appointments as CEO/General Manager -- Boston (MBTA), Atlanta (MARTA), Sacramento (SRTD), and Rhode Island. Nationally recognized for her "equity-centered" leadership, and public service, she is a frequent speaker. In 2011, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), a panel of experts who report to the White House through the Department of Homeland Security with responsibility for making policy recommendations to preserve and protect the physical assets that are critical to the U.S. economy and national security.
In 2018, she founded Introducing Youth to American Infrastructure, Inc. ("iyai+"), a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring, educating, and engaging today's youth to be tomorrow's "community-builders" -- with emphasis on increasing the participation of historically underutilized groups -- most notably, young women and people of color.
A past Chair, American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and Hall of Fame inductee 2020, she is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. The WTS International Mary Peters Inspirational Leader Award (2022), Hubert Humphrey Award for Distinguished Service, (APSA), Sharon A. Banks Humanitarian Service Award, Transportation Research Board, Woman of the Year, WTS International, Women Who Move the Nation, Conference of Transportation Officials (COMTO); and recognized as a Transportation "Agent of Change" by President Barack Obama/USDOT in 2012.
She currently serves on the APTA Board of Directors (emeritus), Jobs To Move America, Equiticity; Peer Review Committee, California High Speed Rail, and PG&E Sustainability Advisory Council. In 2021, she was appointed as an author, Transportation Chapter, Fifth National Climate Assessment.
Dr. Scott holds a doctorate from Howard University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Fisk University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa).
