Presentation Description
Many are familiar with Austin’s attractiveness for hipsters, techies, and everyone in between. The city often makes headlines for its rapidly growing population and employment. And although the region’s traditional toll roads have followed suit with transactions and revenues beyond 2019 pre-COVID levels, the city’s only managed lane facility, MoPac N Express Lanes, is still falling short of the revenues seen prior to the Pandemic. But why? This session will present observed data from the MoPac N Express Lanes to help answer that question. Stantec is the traffic and revenue consultant for the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA), the owner and operator of the MoPac N Express Lanes. Not only has Stantec had to understand the recovery patterns so far, but we’ve needed to understand the “why” so that we can improve our traffic and revenue forecasts for the future. This session will present a myriad of data trends including traffic volumes, speeds, and toll rates. The session will also explore how the CTRMA and Stantec worked together to identify an innovative pricing structure for CTRMA’s next managed lane project, 183N Express Lanes, in order to mitigate the revenue risk that managed lanes are faced with.
