TOM, Who’s TOM? This session will provide an in-depth look at the Transportation Operations Manual (TOM), with a focus on how state DOTs and others are using the TOM to advance their programs and improve their workforce’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. We will also preview the ongoing and upcoming activities that are being used and developed to support the use of the TOM and to mainstream TSMO across the industry. Speaker Biography
Nick got into the transportation operations field in the early part of his career after working on the Lodge Freeway re-construction project in Detroit during an internship with a public relations firm. Once the project ended he joined the staff at SEMCOG, the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), to work on their transportation demand management (TDM) program. He then moved to Chicago to direct the regional TDM program at the MPO (CATS). After working for a national Vanpool program operator back in the Detroit metro area handling national marketing operations, he then went to San Diego to lead the MPO’s regional TDM program at SANDAG.
Nick was also the Director of Transportation Operations Programs at WASHCOG, the MPO in DC, and was responsible for developing and implementing regional transportation operations programs.
Nick currently serves as the NOCoE Director and liaison to the various technology and Transportation System Management and Operations programs within AASHTO’s Committee on Transportation System Operations.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Relations from Purdue University. He resides in Loudoun County with his wife and two kids.
