Lead Presenter Biography
Dr. Yasser Hassan is a Full Professor and the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University . His areas of expertise include modelling of roadway alignments; three-dimensional analysis; effect of driver perception and behavior; reducing collision risk through better design and consideration of human factors; design consistency and its relation to traffic safety; probabilistic highway design; interaction of road infrastructure and vehicle technologies; and pavement analysis and design. He served as a member of a number of committees of the Transportation Research Board including Performance Effects of Geometric Design (AKD10) up to April 2025 and was the Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Emerging and Crosscutting Topics (AKD10-2). He also served as the Chair of the Transportation Engineering Division of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and as a member of the Transportation Association of Canada’s Chief Engineers Council.
