Salvatore Cafiso is a full professor at the University of Catania, specializing in Roads design and management. He is actively involved in international committees, including the TRB and PIARC. He also serves as chair of the PIARC Italian technical committee on “Road Design Standards” Key Roles and Contributions: - Scientific research: Leads research projects on road safety both nationally and internationally. -Founder and Director: Oversees the ITER spin-off at the University of Catania, focusing on innovative solutions for transport infrastructure monitoring and management. -Editorial Roles: Handling Editor of the Transportation Research Record and member of editorial committees for international journals. Research Focus: - Road Safety and Management: Over 30 years of research on the relationship between infrastructure characteristics and driving behavior. - New Technologies: Emphasis on smart roads and self-driving vehicles. - Vulnerable Users: Focus on the safety and comfort of motorcyclists and cyclists using advanced technologies. - Road Safety audit: Defined quantitative risk indicators and evaluated the impact of infrastructure on self-driving vehicles. - Publications: Authored over 200 publications, with 90 in international journals and over 2000 citations.
