Mark has 30 years of experience integrating roundabouts into transportation systems through the application of traffic, roadway, active modes, and roundabout disciplines.
Following 12 years in the private and public sectors of traffic, planning, and transportation engineering, including his tenure at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, where he played a key role in developing the department's first roundabout program, Mark founded MTJ Roundabout Consulting in 2005. At MTJ, he collaborates with agencies and consultant-led project teams to provide roundabout services that support the successful implementation of well-received multi-modal roundabout solutions, enhancing our communities.
Mark's expertise encompasses a full range of contexts and applications, including single-lane, multi-lane, hybrid, compact, mini, and various types of roundabouts, such as turbo and peanut-shaped designs. Mark's work promotes sound decision-making across all design applications, including alternative evaluations, peer reviews, and direct designs.
Mark has authored and published several application-specific research and practice-ready publications on key roundabout topics, including operational analysis, geometrics, multi-modal safety, signing, and pavement markings. Additionally, Mark offers roundabout training, mentorship, and workshops to encourage the effective implementation of roundabouts.
