Lead Presenter Biography
Patrick has a wide range of experience in traffic and transportation projects, ranging from feasibility studies (including cost-benefit analysis), traffic management to detailed geometric road design, both as a consultant and a project manager. Patrick is also a certified Road Safety Auditor and member of Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Performance Effects of Geometric Design (AKD10).
His contributions to large scale and complex road infrastructure projects in The Netherlands, mainly focus on the integral (road) design process, taking into account road safety, traffic flow, impact assessment and costs. Some major projects he worked on: National Road Design Guideline for Rural Roads, Implementation of Road Safety Management in The Netherlands, Road Safety Inspection and Network Wide Road Safety Assessement in the Province of Flevoland, Redesign A1-A28 Hoevelaken Junction, A2-tunnel Maastricht, Road Safety Audits A1-A6-A9 Schiphol - Amsterdam - Almere, Redesign Station Environment Zaandam, Future Perspective National Road Network, Alternative for the Utrecht Beltway and Evaluation of Speed Limit Reduction in the Province of Utrecht.
His special interest goes out to road design, traffic flow and traffic safety in and near tunnels. Beside contributions to road infrastructure projects, he has carried out several (fundamental) researches on the aspects of traffic safety, road design and traffic flow, resulting in (international) publications and contributions to road design guidelines.
