Lead Presenter Biography
Niping Duan is a Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research focuses on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to maritime transportation systems, with an emphasis on optimizing vessel routing, enhancing energy efficiency, and managing navigational risk.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Logistics Engineering and a master’s degree in Project Management from Northeastern University. Her interdisciplinary background supports her ongoing work at the intersection of maritime logistics, environmental data integration, and AI-based decision systems.
Currently, she is developing a reinforcement learning framework that incorporates AIS and ocean current data to support dynamic routing strategies under uncertain sea conditions. She also contributes to the research projects aimed at improving transportation infrastructure planning and resilience.
Niping Duan has participated in transportation research initiatives and is committed to advancing intelligent and sustainable marine operations through data-driven innovation.
