Title: Visualizing Sea Level Rise Impacts in Transportation Planning
More Information: This US DOT-funded research project compares 3D technologies depicting sea level rise in a South Florida location and tests whether 3D technology helps residents better understand the impacts of SLR on transportation infrastructure and communities. Residents used 3D visualization technology and indicated via a survey whether the 3D visualization technologies led to a deeper understanding of the issues and whether they might become more engaged in community planning activities. Title: Identifying and Mapping Flood-Prone Roadways in Philadelphia, PA
More Information: This case study from Philadelphia, PA used LiDAR technology to create elevation surfaces and GIS software to process and identify flood-prone locations to create informative graphics depicting flood-prone areas. These maps serve as an effective tool for making informed decisions when implementing flood mitigation projects. View

Title: Interactive Data Visualization in Air Quality Research
More Information: Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s (TTI) air quality program has been using an integrated data analytics tool (Microsoft Power BI) to improve their collaborative research work and communication with project sponsors. Through multiple examples from their recent research studies, the authors will show and describe how they use Power BI as an integrated data system and demonstrate how their air quality research has benefited from it. Title: Visualizing the Quality of Mobility in your City using the Mobility Energy Productivity metric
More Information: The Mobility Energy Productivity metric is a new paradigm for evaluating mobility options within an urban area. This accessibility measure is appropriately weighted with respect travel time, cost, and energy of modes that provide access to opportunities in any given location. The modular nature allows visualization specific to mode and trip purpose, and can even be used to locate and characterize mobility desserts associated with specific goods or services. View
Visualization and Climate Change – Session 1 of 2
Description
How can visualization help us better understand the challenges we face as our climate changes?
