Plenary Session: Decision-making for Mobility and Sustainable Transportation
Description
Technologies enable the deployment of new transportation solutions and services that use less energy, reduces an impact on the environment, reduces waste in operations, and provide a more equitable mobility for users. Technology should not create more problems than it solves, particularly with regards to social equity (i.e., accessibility, inclusiveness, safety, and security), economic efficiency (i.e., cost-effective and within people’s ability and willingness to pay) or environmental stewardship (i.e., reduced carbon pollution, and improved water and air quality). What do decision makers consider before deciding to incorporate emerging transportation technologies for a more sustainable transportation system? What factors, data, policies, and research findings do decision makers utilize when contemplating options?
