Session Description
The COVID-19 pandemic has had profound impacts on all aspects of society, both in the United States and globally. The pandemic has created major interruptions in our national transportation systems at all levels and has required implementing a thoughtful balance between health directives and operational needs and requirements. This multi-faceted panel will provide an overview of impacts from state and federal Executive Orders on transit, departments of transportation, reductions in funding and revenues, as well as impacts to freight and goods movement.
Presenters will discuss challenges and lessons learned from the pandemic related to construction, including preparing and managing force majeure claims; identification of essential and non-essential employees, contractors and projects; rapid deployment of workforces to effective virtual office processes; labor, employment and contracting issues; land use strategies to assist in protecting vulnerable populations; overcoming environmental restrictions and benefits from reduced travel; and tort liability and risk management issues.
