Session Description
Attendees will learn about (1) various aspects (plans, materials, coordination) of implementing a pilot roadway network; compliance challenges associated with implementing a temporary roadway project for federal lands; placemaking as a result of altering a roadway network, (2) the first national-scale research framework on the topic of e-bikes in a public lands context including what questions prior research can answer, what questions remain for future research to investigate, and how the US DOT Volpe Center is pioneering a new method to study bicyclist behavior using GPS and video data in Minuteman National Historical Park, while developing a study protocol that can be applied to other public lands contexts, and (3) work the National Park Service has done over the last three years related to emerging transportation technologies, with support from the U.S. DOT Volpe Center. It will cover lessons learned from completed automated shuttle pilots, as well as progress and next steps on future pilots to test approaches to traveler information technologies, ridehailing, and micromobility.
