Freight Analysis for Smaller Communities
Date and Time: 8/30/2022 Location: Aspen
Presenter: Jeffrey Short, , ATRI
PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
While many freight analyses focus on statewide or urban freight activity, trucking in particular is very critical to small and medium sized communities. The presenter will describe methods for successfully understanding, quantifying and visualizing truck-based freight within smaller communities, covering topics such as:
-Truck Parking: Tools for identifying where and for how long trucks are parking; locations where parking is insufficient; and connections between parking facilities and key local freight generators.
-Freight Demand: Methods for quantifying and presenting how truck movement links a community to other state, regional and national entities, as well as the national economy.
-Truck Route Choice: Examples will be shown for identifying key truck routes, thus highlighting the importance of infrastructure (both existing and planned) to a given community. Additionally, examples visualizing the importance of local infrastructure to the national transportation system will also be shown and discussed.
