Presentation Description/Paper Summary
Rural road research development in Myanmar is critical for long-term sustainability because it provides knowledge, innovation, and solutions to help rural communities can live better lives. This paper conducts applied and practical work for the long-term development of the rural road research development unit in Myanmar. In Myanmar, a research development unit (RDU) is established to provide scientific, engineering, and technological leadership to achieve long-term improvements in the quality and effectiveness of rural access in support of socio-economic development imperatives and the achievement of Myanmar's Sustainable Development Goals. Myanmar is not only an agricultural country, but it is also located in a tropical region with abundant rainfall, resulting in soft soil. As a result, this is a critical issue for the rural road sector's implementation. RDU conducts activities to ensure the successful operation and management of RDU, such as research projects such as using locally available materials on low volume rural road construction is the application of soil stabilization measures in the Delta region and Flat areas, material testing, and capacity-building training, to contribute to Myanmar's rural road system's long-term sustainability. RDU has held workshops and capacity-building training to train the research staff with hands-on experiments using locally available materials and the stabilization measure for the soft soil ground at rural roads in order to be sustainable. RDU must also connect with both local and international entities.
