SESSION DESCRIPTION AND AGENDA
In January 2018, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) published the Strategic Transit Automation Research (STAR) Plan (https://www.transit.dot.gov/sites/fta.dot.gov/files/docs/research-innovation/114661/strategic-transit-automation-research-report-no-0116_0.pdf) – a five-year research plan on automation for transit buses. It establishes a research and demonstration framework that leverages the core strengths of academia, public institutions, and the private sector. FTA’s efforts aim to help determine the potential benefits and costs of transit bus automation, and to provide transit agencies with the resources, guidance, and tools to make informed deployment decisions.
In preparation for the next version of the STAR Plan, FTA seeks input from public and industry stakeholders on the next phase of research, collaboration and engagement, technology development, and demonstration of ADS or ADAS necessary to improve the safe, efficient, equitable and climate-friendly provision of public transportation and sustain the associated workforce.
We hope that you will join us for a lively discussion related to the future of transit automation research.
