Bernard Soriano is a presenter for plenary session 202: State and Local Government Perspectives on Regulations for Automated Driving Systems.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Bernard C. Soriano is the California Department of Motor Vehicles Deputy Director responsible for policies on vehicles and licenses in the state. He developed the state's autonomous vehicles regulations and chairs the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Automated Vehicles Subcommittee.
Prior to joining the department, Dr. Soriano served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the California Secretary of State and the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).
In the private sector, Soriano held numerous technical and management positions at Hughes Space & Communications, where he worked on satellite control systems and participated in their launch missions. He was also the assistant technical director at the USGA Research and Test Center.
Dr. Soriano was an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Sacramento, where he taught in the College of Engineering and in the College of Business Administration. Soriano was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was a finalist in the NASA astronaut program.
Soriano has a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California, an M.B.A. from California State University, Sacramento, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of California, Davis.
