SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Sutapa Samanta has been serving as the Metropolitan District Engineer (Director) in one of the District Offices consisting of Baltimore and Harford Counties within Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA). She has more than 17 years of valuable experience with the responsibilities in project development and District operations in the organization. Her experience includes developing and delivering robust system preservation programs, various asset management programs, emergency operations. Among other accomplishments in her career, she was given the distinct honor of being named “Woman of the Year” in 2017, by the Women in Transportation (WTS), Baltimore Chapter.
Sutapa holds a Professional Engineer’s license in the state of Maryland. She also holds a PhD in Transportation Engineering from Morgan State University and Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (Howrah, India) and Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur, India) respectively. She serves in the TRB Performance Management Committee as a member along with her association with the TRB Asset Management Committee.
