Presentation Description
The committee focuses on the impacts of transportation on the economy, environment, and society. It is concerned with efficient, effective, and equitable transportation systems that promote competitive advantage, economic resiliency, and sustainable for our cities, regions, and societies. This committee provides a cross-cutting forum for practitioners and researchers to understand the interrelationship between transportation, economic development and the economy, and land use, and the policies and management approaches required to create sustainable growth at national, regional, and local scales.
Speaker Biography
Noreen McDonald is a Professor in the department of city and regional planning at UNC Chapel Hill and Senior Associate Dean for Social Sciences and Global Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Her work is at the intersection of planning and public health. She is currently studying how changing technology and policy impact road safety and access to healthcare. She is an internationally recognized expert on youth travel who has documented how infrastructure such as schools, roads, and bike lanes impact road safety and physical activity. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard in engineering and chemistry and PhD in city planning from UC Berkeley.
