Speaker Biography

Jane Lin is Professor in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), and she holds a joint appointment at the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy (IESP) at UIC. Her research interest lies in sustainable transportation with a focus on environmental sustainability analysis and design of transportation systems via advanced data analytics and systems modeling. Specifically, her research areas focus on mobile source emissions and air quality modeling and health exposure analysis, green freight transportation and logistics, and sustainable emerging mobility enabled by information technology. She is the Editor of Transport Policy, Associate Editor of Transportation Research Part D: Transportation and Environment and Future Transportation. She also serves on the editorial boards of Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice and International Journal of Sustainable Transportation. Lin recently stepped down as Chair of the Sustainability and Resilience Group at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2020 – 2024). Prior to that, she served as Chair of the TRB Committee on Transportation and Air Quality (ADC20) for six years (2011-2017) and Vice Chair of the TRB Section on Energy and Environment (ADC00) (2017-2020). Lin is an advisory committee member of the Board of Scientific Counselors, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (March 2022 - March 2025). Lin received her MS and PhD degrees from University of California, Davis, and her BS from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard University’s Center for the Environment before joining UIC.
