Long-distance transportation--byroad, rail, air, or waterway--consumes a large amount of energy while significantly contributing to both greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions. This session will explore different ways to overcome the unique challenges in reducing emissions from the different modes of long-distance transportation.
Speaker Biography
Dr. Kanok Boriboonsomsin is an Associate Director of the College of Engineering - Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), University of California at Riverside. He has over 20 years of research and development experience in the areas of sustainable transportation, transportation energy and emissions, transportation electrification, connected and automated vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems. Dr. Boriboonsomsin currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Environmental Justice and Goods Movement Subcommittee under the Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). He is also a member of the TRB’s Urban Freight Transportation Standing Committee, ITE, IEEE, and SAE International.
