The highway, transit, and aviation sectors are well versed at addressing impacts related to historic contamination. In addition to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), this session will look at what additional emerging contaminants, such as organic chemical used in rubber tires (6PPD) and microplastics, are on the horizon that may impact future projects and operations and what are some of the strategies to address the impacts in the most efficient manner the strategies to address the impacts in the most efficient manner.
Speaker Biography
Sara Post, PE, is a Research Engineer in the Natural Resources Research Institute at the University of Minnesota Duluth and has an environmental and geological engineering background. Her research activities have included by-product reuse in pothole repair materials and mineland reclamation, mineral particulate matter characterization (especially in lake sediments), lake sediment chemistry, and geologic resource mapping. Other research interests include geologic hazards, groundwater, stormwater management, and environmental remediation.
