The pandemic both created changes in transit use, employment centers, the role of Central Business Districts. These changes need to be understood and addressed as a whole rather than in separate siloes for transit, housing, communtiy development, etc.

Speaker Biography

Bob Ginsburg is the Director of the Center on Work and Community Development working on transportation, economic development issues and public finance. Currently he is a member of the TRB Strategic Management Committee and the City Transportation Coordinating Council
He was Senior Policy Advisor to Congressman Jesus Chuy Garcia and Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (2019-20). From 2015 to 2018, he was at the University of Illinois Chicago at the Urban Transportation Center and the Department of Public Administration. From 2010-2014 served in several senior positions in Cook County government - interim Chief Financial Officer, and then Managing Director for the Department of Transportation.
Prior to 2010, he was a consultant on municipal and state funding and urban development programs. Projects included advising the Chicago City Council and the Chicago Federation of Labor (2014-17), Nevada legislature (1998-2008) and local and national transportation unions (1994-2007).
From 1980 to 1992 he founded one of the first urban environmental programs in Chicago and nationally focused on primarily environmental health issues in low-income and minority communities and reinvestment in older industrial areas.
His Ph.D. is in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1978 with postdoctoral research in Environmental Toxicology at the Illinois School of Public Health.
