Call for Presentations

ONLINE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

Submit abstracts for consideration for presentation at the 10th International Visualization in Transportation Symposium taking place November 3-4, 2022, in Washington, D.C. Abstracts must be submitted by May 31, 2022 for consideration in the conference program. Selected abstracts will be identified by the conference committee as either interactive posters or lectern presentations. Innovative and practical abstracts on the use of visualization within the topic and technology areas listed below will be considered.

Presenters at the conference may then submit a full paper for potential publication in a special issue of Transportation Research Record (TRR). TRR will issue a call for papers immediately following the symposium.

Contributions from practitioners (both in the private and public sectors), researchers, and other stakeholders that discuss and address the application of visualization approaches to a broad range of transportation contexts and transportation modes will be considered, including transportation design, construction, planning, operations, and performance management..

Abstract submissions should not exceed 500 words and should summarize the proposed presentation. Abstracts should embody the conference theme of “Innovative Visualization Frontiers” through the application of visualization approaches to the topic and technology areas listed below. Submitters should explain in their abstract how their presentation connects with the conference theme and at least one topic or technology area below. In all cases, submitters should emphasize the visualization component of their presentation topic and how visualization techniques or applications are essential to their topic. Submitters are also required to include at least one picture of their visualization along with the written abstract..

Submit your abstract by May 31, 2022.

The conference committee highly encourages presentation of visualization methods/approaches that have been used in practice, are practice-ready, or have a strong applied research emphasis.

The topic and technology areas for this conference are:

1. Cross-Cutting Applications of Visualization for Transportation

  • Examples could include the delivery of transportation systems and outcomes for critical infrastructure, jobs, climate change, equity, safety, communications, stakeholder engagement, accessibility, risk/uncertainty, and decision support.

2. Performance Visualization and Performance Management for Transportation

  • Examples could include innovative uses of visualization in traffic operations, transportation planning, system performance management, mobility, transit, aviation, freight, logistics, and asset management, among other topics.

3. Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Infrastructure

  • Examples could include successful uses of BIM practices and georeferenced data throughout an asset’s lifecycle (e.g., communications/collaboration, design/construction planning and delivery, enterprise data management and its use for agency business needs such as maintenance/asset management), along with future plans for BIM deployment (e.g., digital as-builts, digital twin).

4. Interactive and Immersive Visual Simulation for Transportation

  • Examples could include innovative uses of interactive gaming engine applications, augmented or virtual reality (AR/VR) presentations, eye-level or driver’s level immersive experiences, and virtual online stakeholder meetings, among other topics.
