TRR Editor's Handbook
TRR Editor Training Video - hosted by Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to the editorial board of the Transportation Research Record (TRR): The Journal of the Transportation Research Board. As part of your onboarding and ongoing support, we’ve developed two essential resources to guide you in your role: the Editor’s Handbook and a comprehensive editor training video hosted by the Editor-in-Chief.

Purpose of the Handbook
The Editor’s Handbook serves as a centralized resource for editors, providing detailed guidance on both the editorial peer-review process and the technical use of Editorial Manager (EM), our journal's submission and peer review system. This document is intended to help new and experienced editors alike navigate the expectations and workflows (e.g., What is a good peer review? When should I reject a paper?) that are specific to the TRR.  In addition to editorial standards, the Handbook includes practical instructions and tips for using EM (e.g., how to assign reviewers, send decisions to authors, and manage revisions) that will streamline processes across the TRR editorial board.

Unique Practices with the TRR
While you may bring prior experience from working with other journals, please note that the TRR may follow different procedures or emphasize different editorial values. Therefore, it is important that you review the Handbook thoroughly, even if you have extensive editorial experience.

Ongoing Support and Feedback
The Handbook and training video were prepared by the TRR Editorial Office and Editor-in-Chief with input from experienced editors and staff. These resources are living documents that we regularly review and revise in order to reflect evolving best practices, updated EM platform features, and feedback from editors. Your insights are vital to the ongoing refinement of our procedures, so if you ever have suggestions for improving the process, please email the Editor-in-Chief (Jennifer Dill) or the TRR Staff.

Thank you for your service to the TRR. We look forward to working with you to uphold the quality and integrity of the journal.
