The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) has released their 4th edition of the Guidelines for Regulating Vehicles with Automated Driving Systems. These guidelines contain many recommendations for manufactures and other related entities to consider when testing, piloting, and deploying automated vehicles. Participate in this session to learn about these recommendations and to provide input on their application to improve regulatory consistency and enhance safety.
Speaker Biography
Paul Steier is the Director of Vehicle Programs with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Paul has been with AAMVA since 2017 and previously served 25-years as a commissioned officer with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) where he was Director of the Bureau of Investigation & Identity Protection. Prior to his service as Bureau Director, Paul held the rank of Major working for the DOT’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement Office where he also served as a fraud investigator and commercial vehicle enforcement officer.
As Director of Vehicle Programs, Paul serves as staff lead for the AAMVA electronic titling and electronic vehicle record management initiatives and the AAMVA Automated Vehicles Subcommittee. Paul is an ex-officio member for the Iowa Advisory Council on Automated Transportation, and he is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police serving as Co-Chair of the Vehicle Crimes Committee.
Paul has Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees in Criminal Justice from Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Paul is a graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and served 15 years on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
