Speaker Biography
Commander Nicole Jones has over 16 years of law enforcement experience. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Commander Jones joined the San Francisco Police Department in 2007 and has held a variety of ranks and assignments in Patrol, Investigations, Administration, and Special Operations over the course of her career. Commander Jones began her career as a patrol officer. Upon promotion to sergeant, Jones worked in Investigations at both the Special Victims Unit and the Internal Affairs – Criminal Investigations Unit. As a lieutenant, Jones served in administrative roles at both the Chief’s Office and the Staff Services Division’s Staffing and Deployment Unit, as well as operationally as a patrol lieutenant. As a Captain, Jones was in command of Ingleside Station which serves an area that is home to over 130,000 San Francisco residents. Upon promotion to Commander in 2021, Jones was assigned to the Administration Bureau and oversaw the Recruitment Unit, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, and the Training Division, among others. She is currently serving as Commander of the MTA Traffic Division and is the San Francisco Police Department's lead and liaison for all autonomous vehicle-related matters.
