Teleworkers in the Southern California: their travel, their future, and how they differ by gender
Presenter: Michelle Bina
Bio: Ms. Bina is a Senior Associate of Cambridge Systematics with expertise in the areas of travel demand modeling and data analytics. She has recently managed and developed California and Colorado activity-based statewide models and forecasted transit ridership for California High-speed Rail, theDenver Regional Transportation District, among other transit services.
Ms. Bina recently returned to Cambridge Systematics after 3 years of volunteering with the US Peace Corps in Morocco and volunteer teaching positions in Vietnam and Myanmar. Living and volunteering in communities with strong gender roles inspired Ms. Bina to focus most of her volunteer activities on gender advocacy. She taught classes and workshops, planned and implemented camps and clubs, and created discussion groups and book clubs that directly or indirectly examined the roles of girls and women in public spaces and at home.
This study she is presenting today examines the telecommuting, working from home, and other non-standard work arrangements as well as potential impacts of automation and technology on jobs. This research provides insights into travel and work trends by gender and emerging technologies and trends that might impact travel behavior.
