Presiding Officer and Event Moderators Resource Page

If you have agreed to moderate an event or to serve as a presiding officer, the documents to the right can help you to understand your role and the event you will be running.

In addition, the speaker and poster presenter resource page also may be helpful—so you will know what we are telling the individual session participants.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your TRB staff officer.

Workshops (PDF)
Presiding over a workshop involves a substantial period of time for presentations and questions and answers, as well as extended discussion between speakers and participants about the workshop topic. The exchange is typically outcome driven such that the conversation leads to some advancement around the subject matter.

Lectern Sessions (PDF)
Presiding over a lectern session allows participants the opportunity to hear formal, detailed presentations about individual studies or areas of research, with a few presenters typically organized around a common subject. Limited time is reserved for questions and answers.

Poster Sessions (PDF)
Presiding over a poster session allows participants to browse research posters and engage in one-on-one conversations with the authors. Please review the Poster Sessions Guidelines to become familiar with the author requirements.

Committee Meetings (PDF)
Presiding over a Standing Committee (or Subcommittee) meeting provides an opportunity for members, friends, and other attendees to gather on an annual basis to exchange trusted, timely, impartial, and evidence-based information for the advancement of transportation research, improvements, and innovation. This PDF provides important notes and instructions, along with tips for running a successful meeting.
