Session Description
The National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) program within FHWA has been collecting travel behavior data to support planning and policy needs for over 50 years. In addition to the core survey data, FHWA recently released the 2002 NextGen NHTS National OD truck and passenger data sets, which summarize travel within and between MSA and non-MSAs at the national level. The purpose of this Interactive Workshop is (1) to highlight use case examples of how the NHTS core survey data is used by transportation professionals in small and medium-sized communities, including Waterloo IA and Des Moines, IA and (2) to introduce the new 2020 passive data OD products and related tools and documentation. The content will be driven by use case examples that attendees can apply to their own regions. Use case examples include the incorporation of the core survey data into each region’s long range, transit, and bike/ped plans and the truck and passenger OD movements for smaller MSA regions of the US.
